What You'll Do
What You Need
Required
- ●Yarn (bulky or super bulky weight)($3-8)
- ●Scissors($0)
How To Do It
- 1
Position the starting yarn
Leave a 6-inch tail and place the yarn between your thumb and palm. The tail hangs behind your hand, the (connected to the ball) goes over your index finger.
- 2
Weave the first row
Weave yarn over and under each finger: over index, under middle, over ring, under pinky. Then wrap around pinky and weave back: over ring, under middle, over index.
- 3
Create the second row
Lay the straight across all four fingers above the woven loops. Now you have two loops on each finger.
- 4
Lift and loop
Starting with your pinky, lift the bottom loop up and over the top yarn, dropping it behind your finger. Repeat on each finger, moving toward your index finger.
- 5
Continue knitting
Lay yarn across fingers again and repeat the lift-and-loop process. A braided chain will grow from the back of your hand. Continue until desired length.
- 6
Cast off
Cut yarn leaving 6 inches. Thread this end through all four loops as you slip them off your fingers. Pull tight to secure. Weave in loose ends.
Tips
- →Use chunky/bulky yarn for beginners - it's easier to see and work with than thin yarn.
- →Common mistake: pulling too tight. Keep relaxed so loops slide easily off fingers.
- →If you need a break, slide a pencil through your loops to hold your place.
- →Start with 2 fingers for a narrow cord, use 4 fingers for wider fabric.
